something to remember

Download

Something To Remember é uma compilação de baladas românticas da cantora Madonna lançada em 1995. Vendeu 10 milhões de cópias ao redor do globo.

"Ouvir esse disco me fez compreender a minha trajetória. Cada música é como um mapa da minha vida. Eu realmente não escuto os meus discos depois que os termino, já estou pensando no que virá a seguir. E eu acho que sempre que meus discos são lançados as pessoas se distraem com todo o circo e as polêmicas que me cercam e acabam não prestando atenção na música. Mas ele é, na sua maior parte, uma retrospectiva, e eu quis que fosse simples. Essas músicas me deixam sem fôlego" - Madonna

Who's That Girl

osNow, you know I had to include some Madonna. Aside from being a fellow [University of] Michigan Wolverine (Go Blue!), she is also one of the greatest artists-at least of the 80s and 90s. I'm posting the "Who's That Girl" remix right now for two reasons: 1) it's awesome and 2) I've posted a lot of songs from the 90s and I'm wanting to mix in some 80s right now. Posting the Sugar Babes song "We Rock the Beat" immediately made me think of the "Who's That Girl" remix, because they were back to back on a tape of songs I recorded from the radio. Those are probably the two songs I wore out most on that tape, and I was so happy to get both in my digital music collection. Naturally, I have other good Madonna remixes to bring to you in the future, but here's one of the best for right now. Let's not even talk about the movie it's from…

Madonna Singles

Here comes a song that I actually genuinely like, and am sad to eliminate off the list, but well, it's the concept of this blog so I can't go back on my word suddenly and opt to keep it, even if that'd be something that I wanted to do, so without further whining, the third song to get eliminated is..

DATE RELEASED: September 22, 1998
US CHART PERFORMANCE: #11
UK CHART PERFORMANCE:
#06
BEST CHART PEAK: #02 (Europe; Spain)
LAST.FM PLAYS: 371.104 (20th)
LAST.FM LISTENERS: 72.733 (22nd)

So, as you can see, I chose to eliminate The Power of Goodbye as the twenty-fourth placer on my countdown. It's not entirely on purpose, but you see the real reason why I had to take down such a good song so early, is because this awesome song is just outmatched by other awesome Madonna songs, cause lets face it: she's made some pretty awesome music in the past twelve years. This is where the list starts getting tough, and soon, I'll be picking off the great songs one-by-one, and leave us with my favorite Madonna song, yay!

You Must Love Me

Don't freak out, this isn't a post about my love life. At least, not my romantic life. This is about my first love: musicals.

Within my general obsession with musical theater, there are a few areas I find particularly interesting, all of which can be grouped under the rubric of transformations. I am fascinated with the way stories are told and retold, and few storytelling arenas are as obsessed with retelling as musical theater.

I love to read/watch the books, plays, and movies that musicals were based on to see how the composers, lyricists, bookwriters, directors et al applied their craft. For example, my already huge admiration for Oscar Hammerstein II grew exponentially after reading Edna Ferber's original novel Show Boat. The way that Hammerstein transformed the central metaphor of the book - Magnolia's relationship with the Mississippi River - into the central metaphor of the show - Magnolia's relationship with the musical stage - is genius.

X-Static Process" by Madonna

I'm not myself when you're around
I'm not myself standing in a crowd
I'm not myself and I don't know how
I'm not myself, myself right now

Jesus Christ, will you look at me
Don't know who I'm supposed to be
Don't really know if I should give a damn
When you're around
I don't know who I am

I'm not myself when you go quiet
I'm not myself all alone at night
I'm not myself, don't know who to call
I'm not myself at all

Jesus Christ will you look at me
Don't know who I'm supposed to be
Don't really know if I should give a damn
When you're around
I don't know who I am

I always wished that I could find
Someone as beautiful as you
but in the process I forgot
That I was special too

I'm not myself when you're around
I'm not myself standing in a crowd
I'm not myself and I dont know how
I'm not myself, myself right now

Jesus Christ will you look at me
Don't know who I'm supposed to be
Someone say if I should give a damn
When you're around
I dont know who I am

I always wished that I could find
Someone as beautiful as you
but in the process I forgot
that I was special too

I always wished that I could find
Someone as talented as you
but in the process I forgot
that I was just as good
As you

Genius "Out-Button"

This year (February 2010), we lost a Genius named Alexander McQueen. In my opinion, he created from his subconscious and conscious mind, obviously troubled with a beautiful mind. It's like, during fashion week, he pressed the "Out-Button" and checked out of our universe. That button bothers me. Apparently he suffered from anxiety and depression, like many genius minds who make global change.

Madonna - Lucky Star (Dens54 Leila K Version) by madonnaradio

I've been watching Lady GaGa on her musical journey. She's a force. I admire her vocal and visual talent. After I watched Lady GaGa's video "Bad Romance", styled by McQueen, I knew that was the future of fashion, that was "IT". I pulled everything the two of them were doing, and studied. In my opinion, McQueen made Lady GaGa into an other-worldly Icon. The fashion was totally beyond, I began watching his styles on the runway. The two were a muse to each other. He brought Couture to a level i've not seen in this lifetime. Being addicted to Madonna, i wondered what she was thinking while she watched this major force unfolding. He was 40 years old. He was the youngest of six children. Madonna and McQueen had many facets alike. After his death, Madonna released a statement "Lee McQueen was a truly unique visionary in the world of fashion. A creator of beauty. What a tragedy." http://madonnaradio.com

I wonder if the visions of Madonna and the visions of McQueen are/were intertwined with a subconscious/conscious creation of art yielding innate abilities to change industry. My heart says that the female mind-processing handles the Icon deeming powers with less doubt. I believe doubt took McQueen.

My favorite look in Madonna's world was Shanti-Shanti / Ray of Light / MTV by McQueen shrouding Madonna.

Leaky leaky!

New Mo song And I actually like it! It's not too over-the-top. These are the Madonna singles that don't make me cringe. I really thought she was going to get too Lady Gaga on us but it seems she's carving out her own sound again. Another slice of smooth pop without it being too childish.

I like these sleepy singles!

Anyway, this will probably be taken down tomorrow.

Madonna "Infinity"

And the leaks keep coming. LOL. Here is the original version of what know today as "Give It To Me" from Hard Candy. This version is produced by Timbaland and was re-produced by Pharrell of N.E.R.D. for the final product. It's interesting to me to hear a song it's first incarnation and then to compare it to the album produced version. In the end the finished product is much better than this cut, but it's fun to hear it anyway.

IT'S SO COOL DEMOS

Check out these Rare Unreleased Madonna Tracks!

The Queen of Pop Madonna has conquered every facet of the entertainment world and is currently prepping her latest directorial effort, W.E. and just released a teen fashion line "Material Girl". There's also word that she'll have a new album out early next year. However, to tide you over in the meantime, check out these great new unreleased songs I found at the Madonna Facebook page. They're awesome. The first track "Animal" is supposedly from the Hard Candy sessions and let me tell you they should've included it on the album. It's better than at least 85% of the material on that record! The second is called "Broken" and it's my fave of these new tracks. It was supposedly recorded during theMusic era in 2000. And finally there's "Liquid Love" with a remix by David Guetta that was from the Ray of Light sessions. Check them out below and let me know if Madonna's throw-aways are still getting you into the groove.

I Miss My Daughter

I miss my Daughter
I miss my best friend
please let me help you
pain needs to end

You are not thinking clearly
not living your life
the choices you make
just show no right sense

You lie all the time
forget what you have said
it's your mind that I fear
will suffer in the end

This doesn't have to be
for the rest of your life
you are so co dependent
with your fuckin 'wife'

I cry all the time
my prayers are all day
please understand child
I can not live this way

Your body looks sick
you are almost
down to bone and flesh
look in the mirror
look inward at your self.

Candy Perfume Girl Chords (DWT)

We figured it's time to post another Madonna guitar sheet and start having some fun now that 2010 is just about to begin! And what could be more fun than to play another great song by the Madge-sty, which is also a very simple one to learn as well? Plug in your electric guitars and get the "Candy Perfume Girl" sheet from the Guitar Tabs & Chords page!

Monte Pittman & Madonna strumming some high notes (click to see the video)

Madonna first performed CPG in the "Drowned World Tour" (2001) and it was first song in which we saw her playing an electric guitar! (a Gibson Les Paul Classic) And she even played a solo towards the end! Needless to say that Miss Fitz and I would LOVE to see her nailing the guitar like that again in her next tour!!
