Madonna’s Concert Canceled Due to Stage Collapse

Madonna's concert in France, that was initially scheduled to be held on Sunday, July 19, has been canceled. The cancellation is caused by an accident happened at the Velodrome stadium in Marseille where workers built a stage for the pop star's concert. On Thursday, July 16, the stage which was under construction has collapsed, killing one person and injuring at least six others.

Madonna, who was in Italy when the accident happened, was quick to express her feeling regarding the bad news, saying "I am devastated to have just received this tragic news." The singer also sent her sympathy to the victims, saying "My prayers go out to those who were injured and their families along with my deepest sympathy to all those affected by this heartbreaking news."

Reports mentioned, at that time, there were more than 50 workers set up the structure when the roof of the stage became unbalanced as it was lifted by four cranes. One of the cranes then toppled and crashed onto the structure below where up to a dozen of people reportedly have been underneath the stage.

The six injured workers have been taken to local hospitals and two of them are seriously wounded. However, as of the press time, the identities of the dead and injured have not been released. The area where the accident occurred is currently barricaded.
