That album would go on to reach 10x platinum status in the U.S., and her performance of the title track at the 1984 VMAs is a big reason why that album sold so well and Madonna became the icon she is and will forever be remembered as.
Madonna delivered the first-ever VMA performance with a rendition of her hit “Like a Virgin” while wearing a white wedding dress and suggestively rolling around onstage—at the time not only was it shocking but it was considered downright scandalous.
